The Niagara Highland Athletics Club welcomes you
The Niagara Highland Athletics Club was founded in 1998 to promote Scottish Highland Athletics and its rich heritage through clinics, games, and festivals, and to provide news and information on past and upcoming events. Although centered around western New York, our athletes regularly come from across new York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ontario, with all althletes welcome from across the U.S. and Canada, or wherever else you may be visiting us from.
Our kilted athletes come in all shapes, sizes and ages -- men, women and youth alike. Masters, pros, and amateurs join our games. Our events include throwing weights for distance in which both a heavy weight and a light weight are thrown. A heavy weight is thrown over a bar for height. We throw stones and scottish hammers as well. Different weights are used for each class. Quite interesting is the sheaf toss in which a burlap bag filled with rope and weights is thrown for height over a bar with a pitchfork. But the fan favorite is always the caber toss in which a large tree trunk is picked up from a vertical position and thrown up in the air with the intention of having it flip over.
Anyone is welcome to compete in our highland games or to just come and watch and cheer us on. We are always open to your questions. We're a very outgoing and friendly group that strives to present a safe, competitive and fun environment for both athletes and their families.
We are sanctioned by the North American Scottish Heavy Events Society (NASHES).
